1. System The Association has established a General assembly, board of
directors, board of supervisors and various committees.
2. Members Initially, members of the Association mainly consisted of
entrepreneur physicians, while physicians serve in hospital could become
members on voluntary basis. As of implementation of the new physicians' law on
September 11, 1975, however, all certified physicians who practice in Taipei
city are required to become members of the Taipei Medical Association, which at
the time resulted in a sudden increase in members. Currently, membership totals
7,304.
3. Member Representatives To facilitate the convention of general membership
meetings, meetings of member representatives have been held since January 1974.
At present, a differentiation is made between 25 areas: area 1 to 4 consist of
medical establishments with less than 50 members, while each area comprises
three administrative regions; area 5 to 25 consist of hospitals with more than
50 members, while each area comprises of one hospital. The members in each area
anonymously select one representative per 50 members, who will then convene at
the meeting of member representatives.
4. Directors Each three years, 27 directors are elected from association
members at the meeting of member representatives, who will form the board of
directors. The board of directors appoints 9 standing directors, chosen from
the 27 directors, and finally one president is elected from the standing
directors.
5. Supervisors Each three years, 9 supervisors are elected from association
members at the meeting of member representatives, who will form the board of
supervisors. One of the supervisors is then appointed as standing supervisor.
6. Committee Members In order to fight for members' welfare, safeguard their
rights and carry out general affairs, various committees have been established.
The board of directors invites a certain number of members to act as committee
members who will appoint someone as convener.
7. Association Staff Association staff consists of a secretary general, two
section heads and a certain number of commissioners, section staff and
administrative assistants who are in charge of administrative affairs.
